I. Transparency regarding the use of AI and recommender systems
Parship uses fully or partially automated systems to suggest certain information to users on the platform or to prioritize displaying certain information to them (recommender systems).
Our recommender systems allow Parship to assess how well users are potentially suited to each other. Systems supported by algorithms, rankings, and scores help create a user experience that is relevant and personalized.
The purpose of this FAQ is to provide all users with a clear, understandable explanation of the recommender systems Parship uses, their purposes, the basic logic they are based on, how the parameters relate to each other, and how users can change or influence them.
II. Which recommender systems does Parship use? On which parts of the platform are these recommender systems used?
1. Discover List / Smart Score
The Discover List displays other members’ user profiles. These are displayed to the relevant profile owner in the form of suggested partners. Various criteria determine the order in which partner suggestions are displayed.
The following parameters are particularly relevant in determining this:
- Smart Score
The Smart Score is a point value that uses underlying parameters to calculate the probability of how well your profile matches another one.
The Smart Score is based on an algorithmic system that generates a score by taking several data points into account. This score is a deciding factor in the sorting of partner suggestions. Users who are likely to be particularly compatible with your profile, as determined by the Smart Score, are displayed at the top of the ranking.
The Smart Score is calculated based on various criteria, including the quantity and length of personal information in the partner profile, the number of shared profile pictures, proximity, shared interests, and likelihood of responding based on past response behavior.
- Membership and activity status
The ranking is also influenced by the date of the most recent activity on the platform.
- Matching points
Another important criterion for ranking on the Discovery List is matching points, which are determined by the degree of similarity between the information each member provides in the registration questionnaire.
Users can adjust the aforementioned parameters to influence the recommendations on the Discover List. For example, they can edit the information in their own user profile. Users who are not of interest can be excluded manually from partner suggestions. They will then no longer be displayed in the ranking.
2. Featured profiles
Once a user has completed registration, three highlighted profiles are displayed to them.
The Smart Score algorithm described above determines which profiles appear to be particularly compatible and are subsequently highlighted to the user. Additionally, only profiles of users who have uploaded at least one profile photo that has been approved by Parship are displayed as featured profiles.
3. Partner suggestions as push recommendations
Users will regularly receive algorithm-based partner suggestions via push notifications if they have enabled partner suggestion notifications for their profile. During this notification process, profiles are introduced to each other.
These partner recommendations are based primarily on user activity (determined by the date of last login and overall activity over the past few weeks) and compatibility, which is determined by the matching points.
Users can influence these recommendations through their activity on the platform and their notification settings regarding partner suggestions. You can adjust your settings for receiving advertising emails by changing the settings in your partner profile or unsubscribing from future emails.
